Romans 3: 1-8
Sin is a serious thing even though many of us take it for granted. I guess we don't realize that it separates us from God. Everyone in the world is guilty and is condemned because of it; you, me, them. We're sinners!
From these verses, you can read where Paul strips down the excuses people have as to why they don't consider themselves a sinner. We can apply this to our lives today. Here are some of our common excuses:
It's not who we are in society that determines if we are sinners or not. It's our actions, our thoughts, and our nature that goes against God's laws, the Ten Commandments, and following Jesus' standards of perfection. And to be honest, it's impossible for us to be perfect like Jesus. That's why we are saved by faith in Him and not by our works.
As Christians who are saved, we should try our best to live by the example that Jesus set for us when He was here. We can study His life by reading the Bible. It is important that we follow it. The problem many of us have is that we think we can live how we want to because we have the 'salvation ticket'. But, what does God think about this lifestyle? To know this, we would have to know Him.
How do we view God? Unless we know how He feels about sin and that He will judge us for it, we are more likely to take Him for granted, too. Here are some common views we have about God and sin:
The fact is God hates sin and wants to remove it. And He is! There is coming a time when He will totally wipe it out from the face of the Earth and we will have to answer to Him for our participation in it. All that junk we do that goes against His standards is the reason we are called sinners. If we haven't asked for forgiveness of our sins and asked Jesus to come live in our hearts, we're doomed.
